About the Area:

Rye Brook is a residential village in southeastern Westchester County, bordering Connecticut and conveniently located near Rye, Harrison, and Port Chester. Known for its quiet, tree-lined streets, parks, strong sense of community, and convenient location, Rye Brook offers suburban living with easy access to shopping, dining, recreation, and transportation. Housing ranges from traditional single-family homes to townhomes, condominiums, and newer planned communities. History:

The area that is now Rye Brook was originally part of the Town of Rye and traces its European settlement history to the 17th century. During the Revolutionary War, the area was part of Westchester County's "Neutral Ground," where Patriot and Loyalist forces frequently clashed. Rye Brook itself is a relatively young municipality. In the early 1980s, residents of the unincorporated area of the Town of Rye organized an effort to establish their own village government. Following a referendum in June 1982, the Village of Rye Brook was officially formed on July 7, 1982. It was the first new village incorporated in New York State in 54 years and remains the youngest municipality in Westchester County.

Education/Academics:

Rye Brook is served by two public school districts: the Blind Brook-Rye Union Free School District and the Port Chester-Rye Union Free School District. Approximately 70% of the village is within the Blind Brook-Rye school district. The Blind Brook-Rye Union Free School District serves approximately 1,300 students in grades K-12 and consists of three schools:

Historical Landmarks:

• William E. Ward House – Also known as Ward's Castle, the home is recognized as one of the earliest reinforced-concrete buildings in the United States and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.
