Port Chester, New York, was originally settled in 1660 by three men from Greenwich, Connecticut, who purchased land from the Mohegan Indians. Initially known as "Saw Pit," the area developed into a thriving port and industrial hub during the 19th century due to its strategic location along the Byram River and Long Island Sound. The arrival of the railroad in 1849 fueled further growth, attracting both manufacturing industries and affluent residents from New York City.
